31 January, 2006: Welcome back Bailey! Fresh off the boat from South Africa & the Alps (go figure) – Bails returned to NYC after some much needed home + family + friends + boyfriend time… a new school year awaits… but not long until 3 months of summer hols arrives… we went to see Kobe Bryant (who scored 81 points on his own in a match a week ago) play & easily beat the hometown New York Knicks… but we had fun… how’d the recording turn out B? Oh yeah - there were a few others at the game that night you might know: Natalie Portman, Kim Cattrall, Jay Z, Magic Johnson, & Kareem Abdul Jabbar...

Lez Zeppelin
26 January, 2006: New friends included the Aussie lead singer of Lez Zeppelin - an all girl tribute band for Led Zeppelin (the brunette standing in the middle - next to Dan in the pic)… Dan used to work for me in Sydney & has now rejoined Euro RSCG working for me here in New York on Volvo & for Euro RSCG Leap… & he is quickly learning that New York is a good place to be for a young John Travolta look alike, who has been doing sit ups since he could crawl… oh yeah & it’s a good place for him too (right!)…

26 January, 2006: You can take the boy out of Oz, but on Australia Day, Oz comes to him… Irving Plaza New York City… Austen Tayshus, Meat Pies, Coopers Pale Ale, Lamingtons, Colin Hay performing “Down Under” LIVE!!, Grange Hermitage, bunch of new Aussie friends & inflatable crowd surfing kangaroos… Gold… finding a chic Meatpacking District Bar (APT) that has an Australia, but no map of Tassie on their wall - & giving them a map of Tassie with a napkin... Double Gold... home at 4am... room spinning… ouch

19 January, 2006: Flying to meet with Volvo in Irvine, California… I have never seen a man of the stature of Kylie Minogue sport Kramer like shocked hair before… until I sat opposite Al “Corleone, Scarface, Satan” Pacino in the American Airlines 1st Class Lounge in JFK… Yep… Al freaking Pacino… cool huh? So, Jono, as we discussed, I will definitely be playing a Pacino, rather than Brando, Godfather in April… & yes his voice sounded exactly like in the movies… very soft spoken… very vacant eyes… dressed in black & Hollywood cool… I will watch ANY movie with Pacino...
2 days in Toronto
17-18 January, 2006: Blame Canada my friends at South Park would say... Too right... So I go to Toronto, Canada, for a day to present a deck on “Change” to the RB Canada business… pretty simple… but then the weather kicks in… too windy in New York for planes to land – so 7 flights in a row get cancelled, and I get stranded in Canada for a second day… oh well… caught Syriana at the movies… good flick… and wandered around the shops.. clearly people find it difficult to shop in Canada as no matter what store I went into I had about 5 people ask me if I needed help… that or there’s some Canadian in-joke I am unaware of… but that’s unlikely… I mean, as you can see in the representative picture taken above, they seemed like open & friendly & carefree people for me... in-bred? Ruminations from Seat 1A
Jan 3, 2005: Yep… British Airways First Class is ok... the pj’s... the doona… but the responsibility? I mean, 1A – it’s the front seat on the plane… the only seat MORE front is the pilot… how did I handle the pressure of being Captain of the Passengers I hear you think? How about the pressure of being the first officers Wingman? Mighty well I believe… on assurance that I had no special duties (besides being third inline to the throne – or for lovers of Executive Decision “in the Kurt seat”), I settled in for the Singapore to London to New York ride… two rather nice toiletries bags later (I now endorse Jurlique & Ren products – especially their eye creme & lip balm), several meals ‘when I wanted them’, a few vodkas, and several Z’s later, I arrived back to the whirlwind that would be my next 18 days of straight working in New York (yes that includes weekends for you slackers out there… you know who you are)…
