Kino "mood haircut"

Feb 21, 2006: After a superb cut in Singapore over New Years, was time for another Asian creation. So where to go? Why not the "Best Japanese Hair Stylist" in New York... Kino... who runs Kino International, 214 E. 10th St. (betw. 1st & 2nd Aves.), 212-475-6826... here's the New York Times:

"No photos allowed. Best thing about going to a foreign hairdresser is the lack of chitchat. No small talk, no how ya doin’ can ya believe this weather? Just us, our hair and whatever newspaper is stuffed in our bag. With Kino, we get all of this—plus a mirrored studio that from the street looks more like the hallway of a spaceship than anything in the same genus as barbershop. The place is miraculously dirt-free, like an operating room from a 50s sci-fi movie.
Kino happens to be a superb hairstylist. Here’s his secret: Once you’ve you finally gotten over your fear of being the dirty Westerner who has ketchup somewhere (you just know it) on your outfit, Kino asks what kind of music you listen to. And that’s it. There’s no more talking, no labored conversations, and you get exactly the type of haircut you want.
Though we suspect that Kino is a mostly-dude dude, we wouldn’t discourage women from checking him out. Helpful tip: There’s no exterior sign, just a teensy little card in the mirror inside that says "KINO." Just because Kino’s place looks too cold for Kraftwerk does not mean you and your copy of the Post can’t go there."

Jacuzzi search

Feb 19, 2006: One of the coldest days in New York.. I mean cold... my bones were shivering... So Lisa & I had a dream... It started with J and ended in acuzzi... But how to find one in New York City that wasn't full of large middle aged married people, or kids pee... Thankfully they invented 70 Park Ave...

Waratahs design a great win

Feb 18, 2006: Met Dan & Bailey at Eight Mile Creek for the Waratahs vs Stormers match fresh off the satellite feed... NSW stormed in... well not exactly... Very Tight match... Then we headed to the Young Designers Market here in New York, just up the street on Mulberry... Cindy must exhibit here one day - her jewellery would be a hit here...

Bye Bye Skye :(

Feb 13, 2006: Sad day as my office room mate, superior trend spotter, and friend Schuyler finished up today... Here she is lying where our famous "couch" never materialized in our office (not the outrageous grey carpeting... where are the Fab 5 - save our office!). Have no doubt our paths will cross again...

Cricklewood.... but jag talar inte svenska

Feb 7-12, 2006: London - Sweden - London... Popped into London ahead of a quick day trip to Goteborg for some Volvo discussions... then back to London... Saw my little sisters new Belsize Park flat (nice one...)... Plus caught up with the Zeederberg3... plus ventured out to the Trinidadian centre of London in Cricklewood where Jenny, Oliver, Paul, Lorraine and other party goers had some laughs and disturbing conversations about what they feed their lizards (had to be there)... Cheers to the Hampstead crew for a quick beer & pie before hitting Heathrow (Hamish, Jenny, Oliver, Paul, Lorraine, David & Sarah)

Happy Naked Day Leesah

Feb 5, 2006: Apparently that’s what west coasters call their b’day – as that’s how they entered the world…

As I am educating every American who asks (and some who don’t), Australians are of course delivered by the Doctor utilizing a pair of Tongs… preparing us for a lifetime of unquestioned BBQ adoration… and as the average Australian woman is only in Labour for 30 minutes – it adds further weight to Australians in NY as prime males to mate with… That with our plentiful, yet dangerous continent (drop bears), where we have two TV channels sporting brand new shows from America – “Mash” & “Happy Days”… watched while eating our Vegemite cakes (baseball sized solid bricks of Vegemite that we eat like Apples)…

These stories seem to be well believed, & I will go so far as to say “lapped up”, up until now… up until I met Lisa…

An intriguing Irish-Mexican-American Jessica Alba-esque statuesque brunette… & if that’s not enough – it seems she is a very rare creature to boot through being one of the very few actually living examples of an American citizen who has lived overseas (China & Singapore) and travels regularly… she quickly saw through my Australia ruse… yet unexplainably still chose to spend some of her birthday with me… so after a Friday night party with all her friends & crazy roommate Juan-Carlos, where we ended up in a Williamsburg club “Bembe” until 4 in the morning… we backed up & Saturday night, with a nod to Monty Python, did something completely different… heading to the New York Ballet in the Lincoln Center… Modern ballet though… 3 different short ballets in one session… good stuff… though the middle one was a yawn… but followed by some superb chocolate mousse birthday cake & bacon… yep bacon… guess you had to be there… but you weren’t… unlucky ;)
